The Original New Testament

Closely related, iconographically and in style, to the icon of St Antony is this one of St Theodosios the Cenobiarch (O AΓIOC ΘEOΔOCIOC O KOINOBIAPXHC), from the same series of icons in Dionysiou Monastery ( 11.1.529 aged 115. LCI 8 (1976) p. 454). The pectoral cross, the belt and the embossed foliate ornamentation of the haloes are common to both saints. The only differences from the other icons in this series are the closed scroll and the gesture of blessing with the hand in front of the chest, which recalls rather the blessing gesture associated with Christ.
