The Original New Testament

The Protos and the hegumens constituting the Synaxis at Karyes establish the boundaries between the Monasteries of `Xeropotamou' (now the Monastery of St Paul) and Bouleuteria (between the Skete of St Anne and the Nea Skete).

The Bouleuteria was at that time a dependency of the Great Lavra, while the Monastery of St Paul, referred to in the document as Xeropotamou, was a dependency of the Monastery of St Nikephoros, the original Monastery of Xeropotamou and the one which bears that name today. At that time the Athonite peninsula was still largely empty, and the older foundations, such as the Great Lavra and Xeropotamou, enjoyed undisturbed occupation of vast tracts of land.
