Porphyry is one of the best known elders in modern Greece, a few months ago (Nov. 27, 2013) recognised also as a Saint by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. He performed a lot of miracles but most precious for us is his speeches, coming from his experience of God and of the guidance of his spiritual children. The present edition selects important excerpts from these speeches presenting them along with explanatory comments.
Porphyry helped many people with his gift of clairvoyance, even as a spiritual guide. From this service come the speeches we read today being grateful for having them.
The golden days, as he called his experience of the divine presence, direct his thoughts and overflow in his advice, emphasizing the secrecy that fits divine love, the sensitivity and confidence, the awareness, devoutness, freedom and mildness of faith, when life becomes a prayer, realizing the identity of Christ, that "He is our friend, our brother, He is everything good and nice. He is Everything, but He is a friend and he shouts... 'we are brothers... I'm not holding hell in my hand, I'm not threatening you, I love you, I want you to enjoy life together with me."
For the comments I hope, before any other usefulness they might have, to show for his thinking that, although it seems simple, it isn't less open to significant misunderstandings. This way one does not only gain a better knowledge of particular spiritual issues, but also develops a general carefulness in reading.
