Influences other than the school helped me as an adolescent to discover history, philosophy, theology... What was the school's part in this? If I had to rely on school, perhaps I would never have realized my goals.
As things are, I would wish for children to avoid the school completely, if this were not going to cause other problems, exclusion from higher education, difficulties in finding a job.
The failure of our school is twofold: it does not teach what is possible and useful to be taught, and even worse, it imprisons children who do not care for specific courses or teachers.
Plato warns that a lesson is vain, our soul rejects it, if it is obligatory. And yet we keep being absurd, while our own systematic research on this subject confirms the warnings of Plato all the time.
It is sad but our school provides remoteness from reality as a learning, in which case it is natural that the children's capacity for thought is not supported. Even university students, even in the final years of their studies, face the same problem. It's a rule and not an exception for students to finish university without being able to think. You may be competent at your specialty, it's not an IQ problem.
